FAQs
Q: What
does SOY stand for?
A: SOY stands for "Souled Out Youth." We are on fire and souled out
for Christ. We seek after him and him alone. We want to grow closer to
Him
individually and as a body of Christ. We want to be used by Him and
extend His
Kingdom.
Q: How
old do you have to be to attend youth?
A: 6th-12th grade; All youth may begin attending SOY for the first time
at the
beginning of the summer (grade is based on what you will be in the
coming
fall). All seniors are allowed to go through the summer after they
graduate
until they go off to college or to work.
Q: How long does a
normal youth service on Wednesday last?
A: A typical night normally lasts from 6:45pm-9:00pm on Wednesdays.
Sometimes
in the summer we might start earlier or go later since the kids are out
of
school or because we have fun events in the summer like concerts and
water
night.
Q:
How
does a normal Wednesday service go?
A: The normal schedule for a Wednesday night goes like this:
6:45pm-7:10pm Fellowship, hanging out, pizza
7:10pm-7:15pm Clean up
7:20pm-7:30pm Fellowship Groups
7:30pm-7:40pm Announcements, New People, Birthdays
7:40pm-8:00pm
Praise & Worship
8:05pm-8:45pm Sermon (MS and HS are separated each week except on
special
occasions; MS upstairs/HS downstairs)
8:45pm-9:00pm Prayer & Ministry Time
Q: Do
we serve dinner to the kids on Wednesday nights?
A: Yes we do have pizza, sodas, water and candy for kids; however, it
costs a
small fee for each (money goes to be able to buy pizza each week as well
as
other youth supplies). Here is how it works:
Combo Meal $3 (2 slices and a soda)
Extra pizza $1/slice Soda $.50 Candy $.50
All youth who bring a friend will receive a free combo meal for them and their
friend
on their friend's first time.
Q: Can
we send money with our kids for pizza weeks ahead of
time?
A: Yes you can! We have meal cards for the kids. Each meal consists of 2
slices
of pizza and a soda. You can purchase a $10 meal card (4 meals) or a $20
meal
card (8 meals). Each meal card has the child's name or family's name on
them.
You can purchase one card for a family if you have several kids in
youth. Each
week they buy a meal we X off one meal. The final week we will send the
card
home with them to remind them to purchase a new one or bring money the
next
week.
Q:
Can
I write checks for trips, events or pizza?
A: Of course! All checks can be made out to New Hope Community Church.
Then in
the notes section just jot down what this check is for (ie: Katie's
mission
trip).
Q: What if
I can't bring or pick up my youth from service or an event?
A: We can help! We have a van ministry that picks up youth who need
rides to
and/or from church on Wednesdays, Sundays and even certain events. Email
us at info@souledoutyouth.org for
more information about this service.
Q: Are friends allowed to visit
anytime? If so, what if they are younger or
older than the allowed age?
A: Yes, Of course! We want youth bringing their friends all the time. We
encourage bringing friends, and we hope that the friends will continue
to come
and become part of the SOY family. Friends are also welcome on trips. As
for
the age, we can make an exception once depending on the age, say for
example if
they just graduated HS or are in 5th grade. Any younger or older we
would
rather not have because it can be difficult to have a little on in a
MS/HS
setting and not much fun for a college student. We do have other
ministries for
their ages (visit the NHCC website).
Q:
What's a BARF night?
A: BARF stands for Bring A Real Friend. As mentioned before we always
want you
to bring friends each week; however, certain times we have BARF nights
where we
do something fun like a concert or games. These nights are fun nights
that are
more inviting and comfortable for new youth to meet others and get
acquainted.
We have several BARF nights in the summer because is a great time to
bring
friends.
Q: Is there youth on Sundays?
A: Yes, but only for Middle School. We reserve Sunday for middle school
only
because they tend to need their own time and the adult sermon is usually
difficult to understand. However, our HS youth are in the regular sermon
on Sundays.
We want them, especially or Juniors and Seniors, to begin learning from
the
adult service because they soon will be there in the future. The youth
are a
part of NHCC, they are one body, and they need to be able to
participate
in service with the rest of the church. MS stay downstairs for service
and then
go up after the offering is taken.
Q: How
many trips or events do y'all do through out the year that cost money?
A: We do several trips/events that can cost money.
Normally we have one trip or
a few events over Spring Break. Then we have our annual mission
trip/camp to
San Antonio (Blood N Fire) every summer. Then we have our youth retreat
in the
fall. Sometimes we have an extra mission trip in the summer for HS only.
Q: How can
my youth earn money to pay for these trips and events?
A: Throughout the year and a few weeks before each one
we have several
fundraisers to raise money for the youth. The youth that show up to
these
fundraisers will earn money for their personal trip. So we push going to
these
each time. Scholarships are available on a first come basis and to those
who
really need it. We would like the youth to work hard and show they can
earn the
money, and then we can do partial scholarships if needed. However, we
never
want money to be an issue for any youth. We want to make sure eveyrone
can go
that wants to.
